Asclepius and Panaceia (2000)

The two sculptures located within the courtyard look to depict the Greek god of medicine and healing Asclepius and his daughter Panaceia.

Asclepius was the son of Apollo and Coronis who became the ancient Greek god of healing and a famous physician and surgeon. Asclepius is customarily represented holding a staff with his sacred serpent coiled around it the traditional symbol of the medical profession.

Asclepius had five daughters two of whom Hygeia and Panacea who were both symbols of health and healing respectively. Panacea becoming the patroness of clinical medicine.
