One would never dream of using wire rope, with steel acting upon steel, without any grease.  The drive to use traction winches with fibre rope has obscured the fact that rope life is much extended if it not only has a coating with a low co-efficient of friction, but in addition, the many

millions of filaments that comprise its mechanical structure are lubricated.

This is a development that Deep Tek is actively pursuing in conjunction with rope manufacturers.
